The Skillnet Group

Independent Living

Skillnet Group Independent Living supports people with a learning difficulty to live independently in our own flats in Sittingbourne.
We make our own decisions and choices with or without support.
Some of the things we have support with are:

Casa Support provides the housing and tenancy support and the Skillnet Group provide support around life skills.

There are 6 flats. We have support independently and lead our own lives. We also sometimes like to socialise together. We like to go out in the evenings and sometimes have parties for people’s birthdays, go to the theatre or cinema together. We have meetings to talk about what is happening and what we can be involved in. Two of us also have paid work for the Skillnet Group.

What People Have Said About Estates House

Beverley:

I like living on my own at Estates House.  It is different from living with staff and residents.  The things I dislike are, hearing the pub next door at night.  The things I like are being close to the town.

Linda:

I enjoy living independently and having my own flat as well as seeing new friends.

David:

I enjoy living in my own flat and seeing friends and family quite a lot.  I’m more independent than I was when I moved into Estates House and I am looking to move on sometime.

Michael:
I enjoy living on my own because I enjoy my own space and I love having my friends over.

Julie:

Some people are talking about moving on which is great, some people are working for the Skillnet Group other people are looking for work or looking to go to college for further education. Everyone has taken that step towards independence and not looked back.
