Being Seen; Being Heard (GP Training)

What is Being Seen; Being Heard?

People with learning difficulties at the Skillnet Group have been working in partnership with the Speech and Language Team at Eversley House to produce communication packs for doctors and surgeries in Kent.

These will support people with learning difficulties to be more independent when they visit the Doctor. They are full of symbols that can help people explain how they feel and what the problem is.

People doing question and answer time

This work has been funded by the Dover and Thanet District Partnerhsip Groups.

We have held two workshops in Thanet and Dover. Lots of Doctors and health staff came. We did two role plays about good and bad experiences at the Doctor’s surgery.

We have done a Power Point presentation about people’s experiences when they go to the Doctors. We also had a question and answer time for Doctors to ask people with learning difficulties about things that could make it better.
