Education
The Skillnet Group supports people to create, develop and run their own courses.
We have collaborative partnerships with Canterbury College and Thanet College
In 2007 we were approved as a centre to deliver courses accredited by the Open College Network. This means that we can develop our own courses and they can be accredited as recognised qualifications.

We are currently supporting people to complete the ASDAN (Award Scheme Development Accreditation Network) Certificate in Life Skills as part of a group and individually. This qualification can be achieved at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3 as a 2 year course. People choose 4 modules to complete out of six offered. The modules to choose from are:
- Citizenship
- Community
- Personal Care
- ICT
- Home Management
- Preparation for Working Life
This course is free to people who want to learn as part of a small group who can also prove they receive income-based benefits.
The Skillnet Group’s
Music and Arts Project is supporting people with two courses accredited through the Open College Network:
- Progression in Media Studies
- Progression in Music Production
People have been involved in developing these courses and have decided what they want to learn.
In all of our courses people are supported to plan and gather evidence in the way they choose.
When people complete courses we support them to progress into many different areas, such as: voluntary work, paid work inside and outside of the Skillnet Group, other courses at college and adult education and independent living. Everything we do is aimed at supporting people to be as independent as possible and be equal citizens in the community. That does not mean people do not have support but does mean that people make their own choices and can access mainstream services and support.
If you are interested in starting any of our courses please feel free to download the flowcharts that explain what you should do next.
People are currently developing other courses that we hope to be supporting people to achieve in the near future, such as: performing arts and catering.
