Kent Jobs Action Group
What is the new group all about?
Steve and Jo talked about re-starting a Kent group about jobs. They talked at the Kent Partnership Board. Everyone agreed that a new group needed to be led by self advocates but involve everyone equally.
The Kent Partnership Board voted to have the group and for the Skillnet Group to facilitate and Steve to chair it.
We agreed that there needs to be just one learning disability group (the Jobs Action Group) – this would be like a campaigning, pressure, action and planning group and it would make sure things change.
This group needs to link in to the employability group, which talks about jobs for all people not just learning-disabled people.
So what do we want this new group to do?
- Issues and problems around jobs and employment could be brought to the Jobs Action Group.
- All working members of the Group will be paid.
There will be up to about 10 people as the core Group. We will have equal numbers of learning-disabled people and non-disabled people. Everyone will be equal in the group.- We will look at the employment strategy (plan) and bringing it up to date.
- The Group will make sure that things happen - more people getting jobs (including people who need more support).
- People can bring new ideas like a Person Centred Planning Circle of Support.
We will link to the Kent Employability Group, which talks about jobs for all types of people in Kent.- We will bring in speakers - especially employers.
- We need to make sure we involve people with higher support needs (in getting jobs and in the Group).
