Being Seen Being Heard (Training Doctors and Health staff)
Being Seen Being Heard is a project about raising awareness of the everyday problems people with a learning difficulty have when they visit the doctors’ surgery or go into hospital.
People with and without a learning difficulty work together equally and are paid for the work that we do. This includes communicating with reception staff, making information clear and easy to understand, explaining how important it is that Doctors take the time to listen and explain situations clearly.

We approach surgeries and offer to train people about the things they need and then make our training fit what they want to learn. We have had very positive feedback and health staff have said that they have learned a lot.
We have a Being Seen Being Heard group in Thanet, which has been running since 2004.
We are also developing groups in Dover and Canterbury.
