Equality and Human Rights
We have been awarded funding by the Equality and Human Rights Commission to raise awareness about human rights throughout East Kent.
What are we doing?
- Supporting people with a learning disability/difficulty to understand about their and other people’s human rights.
- Supporting people with a learning disability/difficulty and other people in East Kent to know about (and understand) the Human Rights Act, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Equality Bill/Law.
- Providing and circulating more accessible information about equality, human rights and the law.

How are we doing it?
- Training people with and without a learning difficulty about their human rights so that they can train wider groups of people.
- Providing workshops and information sessions for mixed groups of people about rights, discrimination and equality. This includes: ethnicity, race, religion, culture, gender, disability, sexuality and age.
- Workshops will be a mixture of discussion-based groups, performing arts and theatre workshops and performances.
- Bigger workshops and events that lots of people are invited to about human rights and specifically the Human Rights Act, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Equality Bill/Law.
- Visiting residential homes, day centres and other places where people with a learning difficulty meet to talk about human rights issues and how they can stand up for their rights.
- Putting together a training pack that can be used by groups of people when they meet to discuss and debate issues about equality, rights and understanding about the wider world and cultures.
- Providing information to members of the public about human rights issues, through our website and through a dedicated phone number for people to contact us on.
- We will put people in touch with other groups and organisations that might be able to help them if we do not have the answers.
- Building up a network of organisations in East Kent that all promote human rights issues and supporting people to be in touch with each other and share information and expertise.
- Some of these organisations have been providing training alongside us and we have provided training for them.
