The Bigger Picture - We are all part of one world

Ethical and Environmental Skillnet Group is a small, community organisation with a limited amount of money but we still feel that we can (and have a responsibility to) make a difference. This is by making sure we spend our money in a responsible way as well as raising awareness of global / humanitarian / environmental issues in our local communities.

We believe in making changes and challenging things that are wrong. We will do this in a peaceful way and support other organisations that work in a peaceful way. We value and respect people from all backgrounds and have a philosophy of supporting people to make choices for themselves.

The importance of valuing and respecting each other does not stop at national boundaries. We respect people from all countries and ethnic backgrounds. We try to make sure that our practices do not have a bad affect on people who live around us and in other countries.

We also aim to make sure that what we do does not harm the environment both in our local areas and across the world. We do not agree with violence or oppression of any kind whether it be against humans or other animals.

We are all part of a community, whether a geographical community or a community based on a shared interest. Communities are made up of a wide range of people with different needs and views. Skillnet Group believes in supporting, developing and promoting community groups and activities and the people who make up those communities.

“It is becoming widely accepted that the global economic system should be able to pursue ethical as well as financial goals. In a world where people feel politically disempowered and where governments are becoming less powerful than corporations, citizens are beginning to realise that their economic vote may have as much influence as their political vote. This is true both for individuals and for institutional (organisations) purchasers.” (Ethical Consumer Magazine).
